[many of you are probably thinking i was supposed to start work today. cliff notes version is i didn't because my supervisor is still out of town. i 'start' tomorrow. explanation to come.]
since i didn't start work today, i declared myself an official tourist today. now, the only touristy thing i did was drive in and find where i'll be working and then come back home. i did happen to take a rather long stroll in the grocery story, but that might be more of just me than being like a tourist. things are looking up.
yesterday was slow. i realized as i was getting ready for bed, moving somewhere is like being a freshman all over again. (makes sense, right? freshman move somewhere new.) but it's kind of like i'm a freshman moving in with upperclassmen who know each other and know their way around. i just need someone to take me under their wing, then i can learn the ropes and get in the groove just like everyone else.
and i think today, i learned the dance steps to the groove. jenny (one of my housemates) and i were home all day. we're friends now. she went with me to find where i work, we drank iced chai's, i cooked while she planned her wedding, we ate a scrumptious dinner that i cooked. it was a good day. and after driving into work, i'm not as intimidated of city traffic. we'll see if it's the same way when i go in during morning rush hour.
slow and steady, i'm getting adjusted to things. kind of like a turtle, and i'm slowly coming out of my shell. like a turtle. i learned my way around the house and am becoming a lot more comfortable with it after cooking and hanging with jenny. driving downtown today, it's still really weird to think this is where i live now. but you can't go straight to the dance floor and whip out a show stopping salsa. you've got to start and learn somewhere, and that's where i am now. i'm a turtle in dance school.
